why words matter so much

In early learning, communication is the curriculum.
One sentence can help a child feel safe, or shut down.
One phrase can open curiosity,  or close it.
The tone of your voice can build trust, or create distance.

You already care deeply.
Now it’s time to learn the language that shows it — clearly, calmly, and confidently.

“It’s not about caring more. It’s about having the words that express that care — in every moment that matters.”

The words you choose shape the world children learn to trust.

Communication with Preschoolers

Cooperation, Curiosity, and Playful Dialogue

THIS IS A GREAT FIT FOR:

This workshops is designed to be accessible and inclusive for diverse early learning and childcare educators across Alberta, including multilingual and multicultural teams.

Preschoolers are learning not just words, but how communication builds relationships.

In this session, you’ll learn to:
  • Replace directives with invitations (“Let’s try again together” instead of “Stop that”).
  • Ask questions that extend thinking (“What do you notice?” instead of “What color is that?”).
  • Name emotions so children build their own emotional vocabulary.
  • Use the Pause–Name–Guide framework to de-escalate tense moments.

“The language we use with preschoolers becomes the language they use with themselves — and each other.”

Duration: 1.5hours (90 minutes)
Delivery: Live via Zoom or On-site
